Dawood provided structural engineering and geotechnical services for the renovation of a 93,000 ft2 industrial building. Visual assessment, laser scanning, radiography, ground penetrating radar testing, geotechnical investigation and concrete testing were all conducted to assess building condition and determine the extent of repairs. Structural analysis was performed on a 90 ft. clear-span wooden bowstring roof truss system. Local steel plate and post-tensioning bottom-chord rod repairs were designed to correct deficiencies identified in the analysis for 40 roof trusses. Dawood also worked closely with the client and architect to provide structural designs for a 2,800 ft2 vehicle entrance addition, an interior 4,500 ft2 storage mezzanine, a 1,500 ft2 two-bay stone shed and a 400 ft2 loading dock addition. Additionally, Dawood was required to perform structural analysis on an elevated two-way concrete floor system, and specify wall strengthening detailing for weak existing wall and floor assemblies throughout the building.
